Saw the bittern on the shore of a creek. It was running a live garter snake through its beak, up and down the length, as if masticating the snake prior to consumption. Snake was limp after a couple minutes. Screenshot is from the video we posted on social media.

First spotted it flying in pasture north of farm yard. A few minutes later spotted another flying in stubble field south of farmyard. Suspect they are the same one, but of course, cannot be positive.

Saw this kestrel land outside my livingroom window. Went out and snapped a photo before it flew off. 20 mins later it was back above my mixed seed feeder where the small birds eat. Both times its bloody beak wore the remains of a fresh kill.
