Description

This is the as yet undescribed northern Spiranthes entity. At least 41 flowering plants were observed, along with one group of 10 or more juvenile plants. The majority of plants were just coming into flower, with a couple almost finished and a couple still at the unopened bud stage.

Description

Apologies for poor photos. It was blowy and the plants were in a difficult place to get at. The labellum wasn't quite as tapered as some I've seen but definitely this species when the flowers were examined under a magnifying lens.

This is the undescribed northern equivalent of P. colensoi. The northern taxon is not near as robust as P. colensoi and tends to grow in gumland scrub on clay or sandy soils.

Description

I tried to pick up one of these little beasties a couple of years ago when it was singing in my outside covered porch area and I got a blood letting bite for my troubles. I vaguely recall some discussion on this site a while back about this being an Australian species.
