South Island Tomtit (Petroica macrocephala ssp. macrocephala)Observer
kenterburyDescription
I had witnessed a strangely shaped (as in not one I had seen in Prebbleton) bird in the shrubs a few times earlier in the day but had paid little attention. I went for a walk in the garden later and was amazed to find a male South Island tomtit - I ran and told my partner and we watched it for about 10-15 minutes. I took some photos but it was difficult to get close to. I have seen many SI tomtits so there is no possibility it was anything else.
