Looks liek these were recetnly reclassified from Lophogorgia. http://www.marinespecies.org/aphia.php?p=taxdetails&id=125302 This is the deepwater species—not sure if it's been accepted that it's a new one yet, but this is not the same per my understanding tot he southern California and much shallower water L. chilensis. 135 ft depth

Description

Macro of a rhopalium on an Aurelia labiata moon jelly—about a foot across, purple/pink guts, there's been a big bloom of these jellies recently. Moon jellies have 8 distinctive notches along the edge of their bells that ride up a bit further than the other indents along the bell skirt. Tucked away in those folds are flower-like structures called rhopalia. These help the jelly sense light and dark, as well as up and down—they also coordinate the pulsing of the bell, kinda like our pacemaker. The dark spot is the ocellus, the simple light-sensing spot that’s been rocking with wavelengths for a half a billion years. The bright light below is the statocyst, a nervous bulb with an internal crystal that provides feedback on the gravity of the situation to its brainless host.
