Bioblitzing in Houston

We had a wonderful day. The weather was hot with a slight breeze. Temperatures started at 8C in the early morning, to 15C at 10 am and probably got into the 20's by afternoon (didn't check).

The river is still high so we did not get to do any river insect searching this year like we did last year.

The areas covered included:
Trails west of the confluence of the Buck and UBR (3 blitzers)
Trails east of the confluence of the Buck and UBR (4 blitzers)
Old Pines Nature Trail at the ski trails (3 blitzers)
The Duck Pond (6 adult and 5 youth blitzers)
Birding (3 blitzers) included Westgarde's pond, Duck Pond, Keegstra's field, Morice River Road, Finning ponds and incidentals as we were botanizing and catching insects in the other places (above).

Blitzers were:
M. Zagwyn (Photo birder)
A.M. Hak (The Houston Today writer)
C. Verbeek (Naturalist)
D. Verbeek (Avid Birder)
M. Coulsen (Experienced Birder)
S. Haussler (Forest ...more ↓

Thanks to the help of forest ecologist Sybille Haussler, experienced birder Mel Coulson and all round naturalist Anne Hetherington from the Bulkley Valley Naturalist club we were able to count 223 species over a two day period May 26th and 27th. Thanks everyone who participated.
