Description

Very large blue oak which survived the SCU Lightning Complex Fire of August 2020 even though many small trees nearby were killed, near Maggie's Half Acre campsite #2. It measured 16'2" in circumference at breast height.

Description

Virtually all of the Cypress Forest was burnt last summer, as shown in the second image.
The first photo is from the small portion of the forest lost in the 2017 fire; now showing a vigorous regrowth.
Rather severely burned trees are sprouting from their base, and there are innumerable seedlings.

It remains to be seen if any of the Muir's Hairstreaks have survived in this area.

Description

This clump of Clarkia amoena is in a newly established patch of sun as a result of a 2020 fire on Spring Mountain Road. It is growing along the road on an undisturbed shoulder, near the intersection with Langtry Road. 38.517995 -122.5256116667

There are cornflowers (Centaurea cyanus) growing adjacent to the Clarkia so perhaps these were cultivated?
