This is an example of how white-faced Cherry-faced Meadowhawks can be (and this is not even at the extreme end of whiteness they can show). Examination of the hamules is required to confirm the ID.

Description
The shoulder stripes are unusual on this individual--distinctly different from Bison Snaketails (which lack them), straighter and more connected at the top than on most Sinuous Snaketails, and overall more like those on Great Basin Snaketails but far out of range for that species.
The occipital horns are consistent with Sinuous Snaketails, including what look like rearward-pointing horns behind the upward-pointing ones. For this reason, I leaned toward Sinuous Snaketail in the ID.
But could it be a hybrid between Bison and Sinuous Snaketails? Or somehow some hybrid influence from Great Basin Snaketails?

It was laying eggs a few at a time and then going to another spot. I was hoping the pics were clearer (and that I would have more of them). Options with orange in the wings are limited, but they color and battery on the back are confusing me

The start of an exciting morning.
The identification of G. externus in this part of New Mexico has pompted interesting discussions about variation in the species, and potential for cryptic species.
For this individual, cerci are the right shape for G. externus, and while the amount of yellow on abdomen, pale streak on femur, and thorax pattern may be considered unusual for the species in other parts of its range, they are consistent with G. externus in New Mexico.
