Description
The most mysterious soil crust lichen i found! If this Identification is confirmed, this is first observation in California. There is only known location is the US an that is on the border of Mexico and Texas. Measurement shown is in mm. Many of the larger thalli tend to go deep into the soil like bowl. Photos dry and hydrated. Associated with many soil crust lichens, Peltula richardsii, petallata and obscurans and Clavascidium lacinulatum, and a few other placidiums. K-, C-

From slide of last known individuals from type population of PV blue, taken on a hillside in Rancho Palos Verdes, March, 1983. All previously known sites for this butterfly had been searched without success. This was a new site happened on during hillside searching. Neither this site nor any other in Rancho Palos Verdes showed signs of butterflies in subsequent years.
