Treated historically as H. villosa (and previously as Chrysopsis villosa) in our area but as now treated by Nesom (2020), H. villosa does not occur in our area and is considered to be a misapplied name to our plants. Long hairs throughout the stems (I have materials associated with these plants but it isn't clear whether they are 1- or 2-storied). Not clearly separable from H. utahensis except for the gray-silver leaf color and possibly sericeous leaves. Growing in sandy soil (stabilized sand dune habitat) with Purshia tridentata, Oenothera pallida, and Sporobolus cryptandrus at roughly 5000 ft. (1525 m).
