Pretty sure this is a hybrid Q. alba and Q. macrocarpa. Leaf and bark morphology are different than nearby individuals. Will return to find fruits soon.

Genus Pulsatilla not currently accepted -> Anemone patens var. multifida. Found only in original remnant prairies in NE IA. Dry limestone prairie, grainy calcareous substrate. Rare.

-Leaves fasciculate (on short shoot)
-Disciform capitula in dense glomerules

Description
Roosting on the edge of pasture in a preserved old-growth basswood-maple woodland. I watched it for ten minutes. It was harassed by crows for about 20 minutes until it flew low to the west. When the crows ventured near it snapped its beak at them. Very distinctive alarm call -> quick woot woot woot
