I don't think she is well known outside the UK but her book is in the possession of every Phycologist I know.
A few green seaweeds then, easy to exploit and photograph but not easy to describe and annotate in fine detail - THAT is what her book is about, fine detail.
Published in 1931 and getting rare.

This was after the crop harvest so that all started getting into their hibernation groups. There were two groups of them in the garage and they were behind and under boards.

INTRODUCTION: This morning I searched the very high-up drift from the hurricane, which was nearly all plant debris, looking for land snail shells.

I found a few species.

Polygyra cereolus:
https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/9163789

Lamellaxis gracilis:
https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/9219609

But, as well as the countless shells of Polygyra cereolus, and a few shells of what appears to be Lamellaxis gracilis, I found these Daedalochila shells.

I thought at first that the two on the left might possibly be a different species, since they are somewhat smaller and maybe have a slightly different lip structure around the aperture. However, now I think they are all the same species.

All but one of these are adult shells. The one on the lower right is a juvenile.

Day 4 of one of the greatest vacations ever! Full journal of nature adventures here: http://www.inaturalist.org/journal/sambiology/9891-vacation-in-california-news-flash-i-like-california

Using the great existing observations from the San Francisco Bay area and species guide to help with the ID's -- but please correct me if I've goofed. Almost ALL of these organisms were new for me! Also, I'll work on these ID's a bit later too.

The fog lifted a bit, and we went to Point Reyes Beach North. There are some of the snowy plovers that are nesting here -- really neat to see those.
