Description
Relatively large, acrocarpous moss, very light grey-green when dry - almost skeletal looking. Leaves neatly overlapping when dry, spreading and concave when wet. Leaves white (hyaline) and tapered at tip. Perichaetial leaves surrounding immersed sporophyte capsules have very long marginal cilia. Papillae on laminal cells are highly branched with those branches of irregular lengths. Papillae on hyaline cells have some small low papillae and some long spiky papillae. Growing on sloping side of boulder, fairly exposed but in some shade of other boulders and oaks.

Description
On flat compact soil along seldom used trail mostly sunny amongst non-native grasses, coyote brush, coast live oak. Short cilia mostly at the apex of the lobes but some along the margin. Ventral surface is pale - if there are any scales they must be hyaline - I could not see them. Spores are about 80µm at widest, usually 9 areolae across with papillae at the junctions.

Description
This moss stands out with its bright, light green leaves which are long but relatively rounded at the tips. The midrib is quite sturdy and in cross section you can see that it has very thick walled cells on both sides. Here it is growing on flat, disturbed soil intermixed with many other moss species.
