Near the Iron Horse Tr. but in Civic Park’s natives garden. There are several Sambucus here and 50+ Aphyllon plants but most are done flowering.
Growing under a California Bay, but there were numerous canyon live oaks and other riparian vegetation nearby.
Growing under young Oregon ash and Box elder trees
A. cf. vallicola; understory of Cal Bay in small dry seaonal drainage. Prunus ilicifolia and Symphoricarpos albus nearby; Sambucus mexicana also observed in the immediate area. Other local occurrences with elderberry host
Host plant Black Elderberry, Sambucus nigra ssp caerulea. Several plants, wasn’t able to catch them the past couple years. Brought to my attention by Grassroots Ecology and McClellan Ranch rangers and naturalists in September 2018.
Found 5ft from a Cali Sycamore and Coast live oak adjacent creek.
Host not obvious. Below Umbellularia and Aesculus trees in mostly bare leaf litter.
