This is a low growing plant in the Hypericaceae family. I first spotted the red shriveled flowers, I’m assuming from the sun and heat, mixed in with some blackberry bushes. I thought it was just naturally occurring and spreading with the weeds. However, as I continued my walk through campus and along the Ave, I saw it everywhere! I think maybe it was originally planted for landscaping purposes, but it definitely took over the area so I thought it would still be cool to note. A little bumble bee even joined my observation. The stamen interested me, as there were too many to count. The vibrant 5 yellow petals were separate from the 5 green sepals. I liked the simple opposite leaf pattern as well.
Green false hellebore
Leaves feathery. Flowers lobed with one corkscrew petal spiraling downward.
