Description

This was found along the hiking trail of lettuce lake park. It has glossy green leaves that produce sap that causes skin irritation. This was heavily populated along the trail.

Description

Red/pink and white lichen on a small tree, circular. Roughly 6 inches in diameter

Kingdom: Fungi
Family: Arthoniaceae

The distinctive flat, crust-like formation with three distinct color regions in a radial design identifies it as Cryptothecia rubrocincta

Christmas lichen is found on rough bark and decaying wood in subtropical regions and is very common in the southeastern United States.
