Most likely ruber especially given the habitat was under a rock on a relatively dry powerline cut. However, snout looked a bit short to me and muds have been seen in this area so leaving it at genus for now.
Exoskeleton found in vernal pool
Approximately 1 cm long and 1/2 cm wide. Found in sand trap (inverted cone of dirt) on the edge of the trail and found on a steep incline on the trail. Has a pair of pinchers attached at to the head. It has a distinct head region and a large abdomen and thorax (difficult to differentiate). Has six legs and a "stripey" texture. Possibly brown/ dark brown, but was covered in brown dirt. In the pictures the organism was shown in a petri dish surrounded by dirt from the trail. The antlion was found in an oak woodland. On July 1st, I did not observe any other sand traps in the nearby area, but when the trail was hiked a week later 3-4 other sand traps were spotted.
I figured out how to make a gif and upload it! Last "pic" to observe it moving
In dead oak tree.
