Coast Mole Scapanus orarius

Description

Humped soil indicating a tunnel of a coast mole. I dug into the earth to find the tunnel diameter approximately 1.25 to 1.5 inches across. Depth of the tunnel was maybe two inches below ground. The tunnel ran across a trail recently cleared in anticipation of opening this preserve to the public.

Description

Tiny! Caps are typically under 1/2 inch, and more typically 1/4 to 3/8th inch. They are growing in profusion in the duff under a grand fir.

Description

My new favorite mushroom! I'm fascinated to observe them change color over time. These are newer, and greener than others I have submitted. They are located between a big leaf maple and a western red cedar, but within the drip ring of the maple.
