Description

Images showing Leptospermum aff. scoparium (b) (AK 247250; “coastal silver prostrate”) of de Lange et al. (2018) in the foreground and a belt of putative Leptospermum scoparium var. incanum × Leptospermum aff. scoparium (b) (AK 247250; “coastal silver prostrate”) hybrids behind these.

Specimens growing on a iron pan just above coastal cliffs.

I have deliberately obscured this observation for now - as the site is sensitive to human traffic and vandalism.

Description

A further example of putative Leptospermum scoparium var. incanum × Leptospermum aff. scoparium (b) (AK 247250; “coastal silver prostrate”) of de Lange et al. (2018) - one of several seen growing on hardened iron pan on coastal escarpment. Putative hybrid growing with postulated parents; morphologically intermediate with semi-erect to pendulous growth habit; initial branches erect, soon spreading and with age becoming pendulous, branches not rooting with contact on ground. Flower darker pink than those seen on most Leptospermum aff. scoparium (b) but of a colour more consistent with the local race of L. scoparium var. incanum which at this site grows interdigitated with Leptospermum aff. scoparium (b).

Andromonoecious flowers common in these plants.

DNA samples and voucher collected.

I have deliberately obscured this observation for now - as the site is sensitive to human traffic and vandalism.
