on Juniper
On rock among small squamulose dermatocarpons (dermatocarpii?).
@terrymcintosh yay or nay? Leaves with strong consistent bistratose margins and sometimes missing tips.
@terrymcintosh ??? The one capsule I found was ~0.8mm. Distal leaves with short to moderate awns, lower leaves almost all muticous.
Last photo indicates both P. subsessile and P. kozlovii growing together on the same clump of dirt however I tried to make the difference between the stegocarpous capsules of subsessile and cleistocarpous capsules of kozlovii very obvious. This seems straight forward unless there's some hybrid action going on @terrymcintosh
Lamellae +/- 8 cells high
Intending to upload habitat shots for this one. Biggest popn I've ever seen. Big habitat area.
New popn (as far as I'm aware). Habitat is typical saline pond bank in transition zone where Distichlis ends and Artemesia begins
Very thin soil over exposed granite. Leaves 2-3mm, Costa 50-75um wide at base. Not entirely convinced by the basal marginal cells, but the basal juxtacostal cells and the costa seem good for microcarp.
Shaded boulder in forest.
Extensive turf around stump
Lawn
Concrete barrier
Scraps in Bartramia on shaded soil bank on small island in estuary.
Coastal, exploding from the forest margin.
@rambryum @terrymcintosh @fmcghee @dbltucker @johndreynolds all the Sphaerocarpos at Harling Pt seems to be gone after massive erosion from the big storm a couple of weeks ago. Huge parts of the banks have been washed away. I couldn't find a single balloonwort left. These Riccias managed to hang on but appear dead from the saltwater. Massive amounts of erosion all along banks with dead Limnanthes, Sanicula arctopoides washed away

@terrymcintosh New population? Found under microscope while picking through some samples. Found in steppe - not in depression and no saline ponds nearby. Unsure if lucky find or maybe more common than previously suspected. Or hybrid...
