for context, see daily account for 3/31 at Trail of Shadows, Longmire. there was a lot of water running through this area, and deer fern on the banks (and generally on the ground) everywhere. unlike sword fern, all the leaves on the stalk are connected. also, the stalk itself forms a distinct diamond shape.
for context, see daily account for 3/31 at Pack Forest. saw oregon-grape frequently in pack forest understory, often accompanied by salal and sword fern. not flowering or fruiting at this time.
3 pedaled white flower with 3 leaves. Th leaves curl up. Found at Pack Forest Park.
Ground flowering plant that has parallel veins in its leaves. Triangular to heat-shaped leaves, pinkish-white flowers.
Has pointy bristles in bunches on ends of branches. Symmetrical branches. Cones are small and exist in bunches at the end of its branches.
Legume, has tall thin stems. Abundant, has yellow flower when in bloom.
Oregon Grape growing near the ground alongside Ivy. Oregon grape has pointy prickly edges on its leaves.
"Big Cone Pine." About 50 feet tall with huge cones that can get up to 10lb. The needles are long and thick and are 3 per cluster. Native to southern California and Mexico.
Light green fern, multiple fronds coming from the same base. Has three orders of compound leaf subdivision, the pinnule (third order) is has round lobed leaves with fine spikes at the top of each lobe.
distinguishable from the lady fern because the lady fern pinnule appears more sharply serrated, and less bulky shaped lobes.
Yellow characteristic flower head. Flower closes when pollinated, then produces the grey seed head with floating seed cases. Distinguishable from teh very similar furry cats ear because of the leaf shape, which resembles the tooth line of a lions mouth, leaves are also smooth and not furry like furry cats ear. Also, furry cats ear has a much more wirey feeling stem, unlike the hollow and more brittle dandelion stem. both produce the bright yello flowers.
The smooth-fronted caiman (Paleosuchus trigonatus) habits the running waters of streams and rivers in the Amazonia.
There were a few of these bright orange sulphur shelfs growing along the trunks of trees on the Trail of Shadows in Longmire Mount Ranier.
A type of berry with spiky leaves. Small ground plant.
It seems like they were planted not long ago because there weren't that many present in that area.
The Scotch broom were mostly found around the beginning of trails. They did not overpower the area and grew to about a foot to a foot and a half in length
There were many sword ferns lining the trails and camping areas that were large in size and spread out evenly among other plants on the ground.
Some type of berry that has just gone out of bloom, all of its berries were shrived up. Plant had small thorns on it's stems.

2 young trees (about 7 & 10') growing over mossy ground full of woodland strawberry and camas. Needles are equal in length and on all sides.
