Scouted Knoxville and the Grid for early flowering

Visited the grid in the afternoon with Cathy and student Kees. Common manzanita is flowering profusely at the field station, but less so at the grid. Found some vegetative adobe lily, but none flowering yet.

Arctostaphylos manzanita pollinator search

First sunny day after more than two weeks of rain. I noticed common manzanita flowering along the entry road to the the field station. I spent a couple of hours in the afternoon surveying for pollinators. Anna's hummingbirds were consistent floral visitors. Very little bee activity. Males of a couple of species apparently waiting for females to emerge.

Weir/Lunch Meadow visit to search for flowering Cardamine californica

Made an afternoon visit to the Weir on Hunting Creek to search for flowering Cardamine californica. Found a few plants, but none flowering. Added a few misc. observations instead. Saccharum ravennae, which was treated in 2011-12, is making a resurgence in mine-disturbed areas.
