tadpoles and variables

Observational:
I'm pretty sure lumens affect tadpole behavior and probably growth rate. when the light is switched on, the tadpoles start foraging. when the light is left on overnight, the tadpoles grow faster than those outside.

observations

Pretty sure I saw a toad on the road in the middle of traffic migrating to the permanent pools at the hospital. looked like a mature spadefoot, but right in the middle of the day. parking pools are still empty, but the water boatmen are waiting.

tadpole growth

I noticed the caudal fin heightens in Spea that live in deep water, about three days to change. they are also better at buoyancy regulation. They are larger too, but I attribute that to spinach diet. they also like to nibble on wood

bullies

noticed that the size variation perpetuates itself to the extremes; the big toad eat all the fruit fly and the small toads only eat if they are segregated. I noticed the small black tadpoles are staying small and black in the tank with the big spea grape-like white sharks. when I put the little raisins in their own tank, they appear to be growing normally again. It might be straight competition for resources, but I see social control.

woodhousii and multiplicata

weird to see the different in eyes. Horizontal eye slits for the toads, vertical for the frogs. those frogs can jump far, but the toads seem to have longer tongues and are better at ambush and stalking the fruit flies
