Interesting organisms I found while traversing through the North Woods of Central Park.
This plant stood out to me because of its shape, long and narrow, and because of its location. This organism, identified potentially as Prickly Gooseberry (or an organism similar to that), was completely alone in a 3-4 foot region around it, isolated from other plant organisms.
Interesting organisms growing between the base of a rock and a patch of soil. I found this while walking around the North Woods of Central Park. Though this organism seemed to be well suited to its environment, I did not identify any other organisms similar to this one in the surrounding parameter.
I saw found this walking through the North Woods of Central Park. As you can see in the picture, a lot of these plants were growing out of the base of rocks. These organisms seemed to be abundant in this ecosystem.
I also saw small insects moving about on the leaves of some of these plants, but I didn't get a picture. The soil around them was fairly dry, though I imagine they get a fair bit of rain every now and then. In can rain in NYC year-round.
