Ostracods (Class Ostracoda)Observer
acornz2s5Description
I find crowds of these critters (which I'm assuming are crustaceans) in lots of long-standing puddles around campus, often accompanied by mosquito larvae. They are small, grayish ovals, and move very fast through puddles.
They are hard to discern in these photos. The fourth photo has them circled in yellow. I also included a link to a YouTube video of them below.

Trust me, they become VERY easy to see when they're moving!

What
Jack-in-the-Pulpit (Arisaema triphyllum)Observer
acornz2s5Description
Sorry it's so blurry. I'm mostly certain this was found either in August or September. I think it's a plant, growing out from under a fallen tree. It had an odd structure that looked like a cluster of red corn kernels on the top. It was about as long as my middle finger.

What
Genus PhallusObserver
acornz2s5Description
I found this red tentacle monster at the base of a tree in the mulch, alongside some familiar bright yellow slime mold. I'm guessing it's some kind of fungus, but really I have no idea. I've never seen anything like it. There were two other single "tentacle" projections coming out from the mulch, each about a foot away from the central group.
Edit: Added another photo of a different cluster. These ones had small egg shaped white objects near the bases of the tentacles. There were lots of flies on the tentacles; maybe they were shrivelled and rotting?
What
Earthworms and Allies (Subclass Oligochaeta)Observer
acornz2s5Description
It had been raining for a few hours, and I found this large earthworm on the pavement, along with many others. It looked like a typical night crawler. About least as long as my hand.
