There were several of these growing in the sidewalk cracks of an urban neighborhood. There were none in the vacant house’s overgrown yard nearby, but they could have been cultivated years ago.

This pair appeared to be engaged in some form of intercourse when I went past. They scurried away a bit but remained within less than two feet of each other. They both did pushups. What I presume is the larger male did so more vigorously. What I presume is the saura was lighter in color.

This hillside is home to lots of miniature lupine and arroyo lupine. I’ve been looking for a stinging lupine which is said to grow in the preserve. Most of the lupine is now gone beyond the flower stage. This looks like it hasn’t flowered yet. Maybe someone can do a better job of identifying it.

This snake was about 6 feet long. It was headed into a hole at the side of the trail ( see second picture). Unfortunately I was too slow to stop and get out my phone but I could see the head midway across the trail so could easily verify it was not a rattlesnake.

With these additional pictures, I hope we can get a definitive identification for them.
