Japanese Stiltgrass (Microstegium vimineum)Observer

Mosa Forest. Along wet trail in mixed deciduous forest (Bur Oak-Red Maple-Hickory), approximately 80 m from the road. Patches extend approximately 1 m wide on either side of the trail, and run the length of the trail for 20+ m. Growing amongst the morphologically similar graminoid Leersia virginica. Several satellite patches with a few plants encountered further down the trail.
Reported to CFIA and local conservation authority.

First record for southern Ontario. Reported previously from Frontenac and Lanark County (see Thomson 2005, in Canadian Field-Naturalist, Vol. 199, No. 1). Obvious pappila in center of frond. In vegetated drainage ditch just north of parking lot at Wainfleet Bog CA.
