Black Nightshade Complex (Complex Solanum nigrum)Observer
ericaoDescription
Single plant growing in agricultural field - field seeded with clover in spring (sourced from Nova Scotia).
Seeds to 1.5 mm (S. americanum), but fruit not fully mature. Hairs appressed (S. americanum), but stem glandular. Lobes in fruit slightly recurved (S. americanum).
Some sites describe S. nigrum as having almost hairless leaves and stems, and this plant has some hair on both leaves and stems. Both species would be well out of known introduced range, S. americanum especially so.
