I only saw this one specimen. I wonder if it might be dead. The only small branches I could reach were brittle and dry. The fallen leaves on the ground were from various red and white oaks, some cottonwood, and a few elm and cherry.

One of my favorite lichens. At it's best, it gives off kind of a "little Shop of Horrors" vibe. Very hard to spot among all the other yellow lichen that always seem to be present. I read somewhere that it's a listed species across the border in WI, but I find it somewhat regularly here, often on old overgrown sumac, or old clumps of willow.
