Description

a mangrove specialist genus.
the species Aucha latipennis has a large yellow medial blotch on the hindwing - somewhat reminiscent of the Hyblaeidae species Hyblaea puera (Teak Defoliator) that also can be found in high abundance in Indian mangroves.

Description

resting up in the vegetation, almost out of sight and looking more like some logs from a distance....
The boat we were on was reversed, after one of the keen eyed Zoological Survey of India staff spotted this monster sized saltie - we estimated over 5m long, and brought to within about 10m of the bank (we grounded in shallow water inadvertantly, but didn't get stuck)
