Song Sparrow (Melospiza melodia)Observer
jldmDescription
It started on a weed-tree coming up among the cat-tails on the shore. Then flew to this tree and showed great interest in the new red buds. Unsure if its eating something on the buds or the sweet-goodness of the buds.

House Finch (Haemorhous mexicanus)Observer
jldmDescription
Some flirty behaviors from the male from the upper branch toward the female: scooting closer, bobbing and bowing, leaning in for a 'kiss', and she moves away wanting none of it. Ultimately she drops to a lower branch which isn't saying much and the male follows, getting very close. Is it a match?? I don't know.

Two males vying for the female. One male drops and perches below her in a play, the other comes in from above. A fight ensues, as the male from above ends the flirting.

Beautiful sight. And to witness it in song, it puffs up to call or sing much like a cowbird. Learned something new this day!

Hunting. A swift grab and up dripping water, it has the very smallest little fish, perhaps, for such a big bird. But with much fan fare, whippig its head around, it tosses the catch back and eats with vigor! Then resumes its calm composure.

"What is that? What the heck is that? Is that...? I don't know...what the heck is that?!" As we were leaving the parking lot of the MN RIver Vally Ntl Wildlife Refuge, my pal saw something on a light pole, waaaay across 494 looking north. We maneuvered and craned or necks, I used the telephoto...no idea. Appears to be 2 pigeons. Huh. Well. There you go.
