Here are some better photos I took of the Southern Right Whale that I saw in Sumner yesterday morning. It has a calf with it (photo with the fin out the water) and is milling around Taylors Mistake at the moment, swimming from one side of the bay to the other, and back again.

I think this might be a southern right whale. I’m just at the beech at the moment and it has been coming up to the surface for about 2 hours now, and has been surfacing about 200m off shore. The second photo is a screenshot of a video taken on my phone. (I can’t figure out how to add video footage). Unfortunately it is very grainy but does (just) show the plume of water coming up. The clearer photo is from a friend who was up the hill at the same time, and gives a clearer shot of it.
