It makes perfect since for an ashe juniper to be found in Austin because it is a drought resistant, evergreen tree. We are currently in a drought, as marked by the dried up pool in Walnut Creek Metro Park, giving this tree a survival advantage.

Found multiple clusters of this plant on my walk. I also happened across one these plants that someone had pulled out of the ground. I took a picture in case it would help with IDing this plant.

Prickly Pears (Genus Opuntia)Observer

I found other cacti in the park, but I just happened to take a picture of this patch first. Cacti were randomly interspersed in the park, seemingly at random in the middle of a field of other plants. This was interesting to me because we are used to seeing cacti being isolated in more desert like environments and not in the middle of a lush park.

Two squirrels in the trees were chasing each other while the squirrel on the ground is preoccupied with the food they found.

This millipede was found underneath a rock, most likely because they feed off of detritus, which there is plenty of underneath rocks in the form of mulch and leaf litter.

This pigeon was hanging around an area on campus where students were sitting and eating their lunch. This pigeon was most likely using this area as an "hunting ground" to eat dropped pieces of food.
