Field Notes - gilled mushrooms growing in a clump. each mushroom was about 5 -8 cm across. the caps were orange brown with a fine hairlike texture. caps were quite thick in the centre. my suggestion is gymnopilus junionus based on appearance but I read they live on dry wood and these were on a gas nature strip

Field Notes - it's hard to see in the photo but there is a hook on its beak. I recognised the butcherbird by its call as well and I saw the grey feathers

Field Notes - when I first saw it in the foyer I thought it was dead. I picked it up and it didn't move, but when I put it outside on a lead in the sun it started to walk. maybe just cold!
