Description

I originally thought this was Carex concoinoides, but this species appears to be dioecious and have only one flower head per plant. Occurs in Douglas fir/Ponderosa pine, mid level forest with ninebark and snowberry understory. Aspect is north north west, and other plants nearby include elk sedge, pinegrass, rattlesnake plantain, calypso orchid, glacier lily.

This fox (or maybe mountain lion? But too low pitched for a lion, I think) is repeatedly calling down the hill from our house tonight. This has been going on for over 10 minutes now.
