Description

This was collected by Andrew Simon on Dec. 20, 2023 before it was completely mature. The spores, which are small, haven't developed their final form. I'm judging this id on the elaters, which I'm hoping are pretty much in their mature form.

Observed and collected by Kevin Toomer on Galiano Is and sent to me as some scraping so it wasn't easy to work with - but that it appears to be a new species for BC also increases the difficulty for me. Not much to compare it too, but those spores were pretty distinctive! Very, very dark when mature with interesting angular shapes and markings

This has been quite a lot of work and I'm still not positive. The spores range around 12.5. There is a lot of interesting ornamentation on the straight capillitium and there are also some very curly strands.
So maybe D. dubium cf spiralis? Also looked at D. pseudodecipiens, but it appears to only exist in the French books..

The spores small - 8 um - and the columella is very large, as is the stem. A fairly sturdy looking little myxo.

Description

New species for BC, with a little help from my friends on on Slime mold Facebook group on id. not sure what I have here. At first I thought it might be denudata, but it keeps it colour in Hoyer's medium and these don't. I also looked at affinis, but it also keeps it's colour in Hoyer's - or at least the specimen I collected as A. affinis keeps it's colour in Hoyer's. Arcyria major loses it's colour immediately in Hoyer's, but it has a much shorter stalk. I don't have great faith in my exact measurements, but I do know that they can fit pretty much fit every red Arcyria I know about.

Not really thrilled with this ID, but it seems the closest fit. The spores a bit on the large side, averaging 12 um, but within range according to Nann.- Brem. The last photo is a close up of the stipe and the crystals it is made up of (I think).
