Isopods (Order Isopoda)Observer
paulahDescription
Slaters, pill bugs, sow bugs, woodlice, Maori papapa. Removed the pitfall trap after 3 days rain after being buried in the vege patch. Nothing growing in there at the moment but plenty of plant matter rotting. This was the only insect in the trap. Too wet I guess. otherwise only fine silt in the trap.
What
Common Hedgehog (Erinaceus europaeus)Observer
paulahDescription
The Ink pad was baited with a spoonful of smooth peanut butter for 3 nights. I didn't see it but the prints were the size of a kitten so too big to be a rat. It's not kitten season and there are scratches on the inside of the casing from spines. The print tunnel was placed along the edge of the back of the garden near the compost heap with a brick on it to keep the chickens from tipping it over.

I saw 2 medium sized white birds fly arrow straight overhead towards Hagley Park. They looked like pigeons or doves, I only saw them as they flew away so I couldn't tell.

What
House Sparrow (Passer domesticus)Observer
paulahDescription
A small flock of sparrows flew down onto the chicken coup. Usually these will settle down on the ground to peck on the ground within the coup but today the chooks were out & the gate open. Plus the cat was snooping about so they flew off again. A large sparrow argument could be heard in the neighbours trees but could only see blinks of brown flitter through the branches.

Missing LocationDescription
A female blackbird with shiny black feathers and a bright orange beak. Could see it through the pear tree leaves but it flew off before I was able to get a photo. The tree is loaded with ripe pears that are out of a person's reach and so all the local birds come for a feed. A male was seen about 2 minutes earlier, mate?

Spotted Ground Swift Spider (Nyssus coloripes)Observer
paulahDescription
Seen on kitchen bench while raining outside. Didn't touch it as NZ spiders tend to be 20 shades of brown so figured it wasn't a native. Googled to find a matching picture. http://www.southbank.qm.qld.gov.au/Find+out+about/Animals+of+Queensland/Spiders/Modern+Spiders+Infraorder+Araneomorphae/Swift+Spiders
