Description

Possibly an introduced species- I’d be keen to know the genus or species. I’m thinking Falagria. Found on underside of cut Hoheria stump section in leaf litter in suburban garden. A range of native and introduced beetle species attracted to the stump at first, numbers and diversity diminishing over several weeks.

Description

The large (23-30mm) undescribed species found in the Timaru and Geraldine districts of South Canterbury. It will be named when Peter Johns publishes his revision of the genus. It’s common in this scrubby ex-quarry gully on the outskirts of Timaru. Like other large carabids, they’re pretty bitey customers. Smell bad too.
