Description

There were lots of these on the ground. I was in the woods and drawn to the pretty bright green color with orange accents. It was definitely a blossom but not quite a flower.

Yellow Iris (Iris pseudacorus)

Observer

Description

This was found next to a large pond. It was growing in very muddy soil, it was surprising because I didn’t know irises could grow so close to water. It has a very vibrant yellow color with long green leaves and stems.

Description

I found this in the woods near some grasses and other plants. It almost looked like a bunch of small dandelions. There were lots of these growing as I walked around. A very bright yellow color with lots of buds.

Description

Saw fluttering nearby and had to wait for it to land. Has a very pretty orange color with black patterns. This was very small, maybe 2 inches long. I found it in a grassy field where there were others as well.

What

Eastern Painted Turtle (Chrysemys picta ssp. picta)

Observer

quandtja31

Date

May 9, 2019 10:33 AM EDT

Description

I looked down at the ground and saw a rock but then it started moving. This turtle was extremely small and looked like it had just recently hatched. It had very beautiful bright orange markings on its body and an orange yellow underside. There was probably a nest near by and after observing we returned the turtle to where we found it. Which was a rocky small water area, but was swampy at the time from recent rainfall.

What

Eastern Tiger Swallowtail (Papilio glaucus)

Observer

Date

May 9, 2019 11:03 AM EDT

Description

We originally found two butterflies, one was on the ground and the other was on the front of a truck. The one on the ground was too torn up to get an accurate picture. This one was still fluttering and entirely intact body wise. I did not notice the blue on the ends of the wings until I looked at the pictures I took
