Western Diamond-backed Rattlesnake (Crotalus atrox)Observer
shaunhayesDescription
Big male C. Atrox relocated from this spot, captured by the landowner. Relocation is always a risk, but if it’s the only chance, I’ll show up to help. This one was unusually lively given 58 degree temps. Hopefully he makes it!

Bullsnake (Pituophis catenifer ssp. sayi)Observer
shaunhayesDescription
A dead baby bull showing up on the side of my driveway is a sick joke! Looks like either an animal, bird or human killed it as opposed to being run over. Good sign that they’re still breeding in this area, at least.

Northern Mole Cricket (Neocurtilla hexadactyla)Observer
shaunhayesDescription
Looks like I’m the first one to post one of these in this area? I can’t remember ever seeing one before. Fairly large and quite fast! At first I thought it was a longhorn beetle from a distance
What
Bush Cicada (Megatibicen dorsatus)Observer
shaunhayesDescription
I’m always happy to see these guys, this is only the 2nd time I’ve seen them but they were thick/abundant in the tall grass along a creek. The other place I’ve seen them was also a marshy environment with tall grass in Mesquite TX as posted several years ago on this site.

Canadian Beaver (Castor canadensis)Observer
shaunhayesDescription
Poor beaver. Seemed to be taking its last breaths. I couldn’t see any obvious trauma. Perhaps another beaver attacked or some kind of sickness?

Capturing a western honey bee, a sight I’ve never stumbled across before
