After my camera battery died, I was left with only my phone, which just wouldn't focus. This cutie was in its web, set up in a tiny sapling next to a stream. The whole area is clearly a high traffic area for local roaming cows, despite being accessible only by rather steep trails. Location is estimated.

My son noticed this one and had a pretty good idea it was a fly. I was fooled by its markings and thought it was a wasp at first. It wasn't until I got a better look at its eyes that I saw it was a fly. What an incredible mimic! I haven't ever seen this genus before. Really striking in person.

Two juveniles pictured. There has apparently been a hatch somewhere nearby. I found several similar tinies who had set up webs around the backyard furniture a few days back, but I didn't realize there were babies in the front as well. These two were on the front porch. It will be interesting to see how many stick around and where.

Inside a small plastic shed. Two individuals pictured. This spot used to be frequented by several Steatoda triangulosa, and I was ecstatic the first time I found one of these linyphiids. Now I don't see any Steatoda---only signs one in an empty web---but this linyphiid species seems to be proliferating here and throughout my yard.

On a rose bush just outside my back door. Strangely, I have only ever seen early instar juvenile orbweavers in my yard. I don't know why they leave, when they go, or where they go to. I also don't know how many genera or species come here, because I can never identify them, though there has definitely been some variety. I certainly wish some would stick around! For size comparison, in addition to the photo with my hand (which is quite small for an adult), the first image has baby aphids on the right.
