Life long interest in nature, sometimes at odds with my nursing profession....esp when I told colleagues I find bugs fascinating!
I have a somewhat "messy" yard. I have not used any artificial herbicides or pesticides on our property, 6.5 acres outside Stonewall, MB for 25 years.
The soil is quite poor as we live on a limestone gravel ridge, at least for growing many plants that prefer Manitoba's rich gumbo.
I've had to learn to garden with white tailed deer. There are somethings they don't eat like peonies but other things they eat depend on the year & season.
As of Dec 20, 2021 I will be calling Robson, BC home. I will miss observing life on our acreage near Stonewall but I'm looking forward to learning about & seeing new flora & fauna in the West Kootenay's. Also excited to collect new bird/wild flower books...all of my current ones are for Eastern region +/- Prairie regions. I've already seen my first Stellar Jay (on a previous visit, that was very exciting for me!)
