Certified Virginia Master Naturalist, federal museum (NMNH) contractor, and conservation undergraduate at George Mason University.

Particularly interested in local (Northern Virginia) occurrences of Lucanus (Coleoptera:Lucanidae).

Optics:
My observations are taken with the combination of my Samsung Galaxy S9+ camera (sometimes through Nikon Monarch 5 binoculars or a Carson Ø30mm hand lens) and a Nikon DSLR 3500 (with either an AF-P Nikkor 15-55mm or AF-P Nikkor 70-300mm). I have very little experience with the DSLR and tips would be appreciated.

Identifications:
I upload many of my observations through the mobile app (which can be both strenuous and tedious) or through bulk uploads from my PC. During my process, I will put a placeholder taxon as the identification if I can't immediately make out the species. I hope to get back to these when I have time to try my guides for proper identification. Any tips or corrections are welcome throughout my haphazard upload/identification process.

Looking forward to reaching 10K observations in 2020!
