Get Ready. Set. BioBlitz!

Hello all!

Our 2016 BioBlitz has begun. It officially began Monday and runs through the end of the day Sunday, May 22 (despite what the graphic says on our project page). Much of our activities thus far have focused on engaging children from L.A.-area schools. But we'd love to have you contribute as well!

National Geographic held a BioBlitz with Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area in 2008. We were one of the chosen National Park Service units in the 10-year run-up to this year's centennial celebration. Back then, we observed around 1,700 species from 5,500 observations.

Can we observe at least that many species this time? We would sure like to. At this point, we're at 110 species. A little behind an ideal pace, but we can pull ahead!

Thanks for your help and let us know if you have any feedback or questions.
