The final day of the Great Lakes BioBlitz is here!

Thank you so much for participating in the Great Lakes BioBlitz. We hope you have had a great time 'Blitzing with us this year! While we are sad the Great Lakes BioBlitz is coming to an end, it's been an amazing four weeks! We've already seen a lot of observations get posted, and have had a fantastic level of participation across the entire Great Lakes Basin.

But, it's not quite over just yet…. There is still all day today, up until 11:59pm in your time zone, to post final observations! So, our unofficial final challenge for our last day of the Great Lakes BioBlitz is to see if you can post a personal best in the number of observations you make in one day!

Remember, even though the Great Lakes BioBlitz is officially ending at the end of today, that doesn't mean the fun has to stop! Youth can submit their best photos taken between April 22, 2022 and May 20, 2022 to our photo contest until Wednesday, May 26, 2022.

We'd also like to remind you that you can keep your observation and photo skills sharp for next year's Great Lakes BioBlitz by continuing to help catalog biodiversity all year long. You can post observations into iNaturalist even after the Great Lakes BioBlitz ends! Try joining a different iNaturalist project, or start your own! But don't forget to join us again in April of 2023!

Have a great final day BioBlitzing!

Home stretch! It's week four of the Great Lakes BioBlitz!

We are seeing some great observations capturing local biodiversity, which is fantastic. But apart from that being the point of this event, we hope seeking out and submitting biodiversity photos has also been as much fun for you as it has for us! In fact, we've been having such a good time that we can't believe it's our last week of the Great Lakes BioBlitz already? Can you?!?

For week four we've saved some really good challenges. We think they may be the most challenging yet, but are confident you all can rise to meet them!

Terrestrial Challenge
Week 4: Photograph something that grows in the wild and bears fruit.

Aquatic Challenges
Week 4: Photograph an aquatic ectotherm (an ectotherm is an animal that cannot create its own body heat) but is not a fish.

Good luck in week four! We are excited to see what you find!

Welcome to week two of the Great Lakes BioBlitz!

We hope that you were able to capture some great photos of your local biodiversity in week one. For some of us across the basin, spring is a little slow to arrive so we kept the challenge easy. But each week we will up the challenge a bit to keep things, well, challenging!

Ready to grab your cameras or phones and give week two a go? As you head out to explore your local flora and fauna see if you find things that meet these criteria:

Terrestrial Challenge
Week 2: Photograph something with fur or feathers.

Aquatic Challenge
Week 2: Photograph something that swims or lives in the water but isn’t a fish.
