Hormiguera de la bromelia - Pseudonymphidia agave

En los bosques tropicales de América central hay una bromelia mirmecófita (https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/210961-Aechmea-bracteata) con adaptaciones para abrigar nidos de hormigas. Dentro de una bromelia habitada por la hormiga Cazadora Gigante (https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/423659-Neoponera-villosa) se encontró una oruga de mariposa. La “hormiguera de la bromelia” (https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/293997-Pseudonymphidia-agave) es el primero caso de simbiosis entre mariposas y hormigas ponerine. This project aims to summarize the natural history records of myrmecophilous interactions in the butterfly families Lycaenidae and Riodinidae (Lepidoptera), as well as their host plants and tending ants. Through the naturalistic records a global multitrophic network of Ant-butterfly-plant interactions can be generated.
