Grant provides audio monitoring

We received funding from NIPSCO Environmental Grant through Porter County Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America.

Tonight, for the first time, we are using the smartphone adapter to monitor bat calls.
While we understand that further ID is needed to confirm the calls, the Echo Meter Touch 2 pro recorded many calls while we had visual sightings as well.

3 different bats were ID'd by the detector; Big Brown Bat mostly, a couple Hoary Bat recordings and an Indiana Bat! We are very excited and are eager to get further into the field to gather more recordings.

Too chilly?

The bat over here that I first saw on 4/3, wasn't out last night. It was chilly around 40* so he was probably hunkered down keeping warm. Let's keep an eye on temperatures when we see bats, might help see trends in spring (early April) and fall (late Oct).

Keep watching the skies at twilight!

First Bat!

BAT WATCH 2020 Team!

I saw our first bat tonight, April 3, 2020 at 7:30pm. Mostly just a good twilight tree/sky picture, but he passed over us eating mosquitoes 4+ times while we sat by the bonfire.

I'm excited to get more sightings soon...start watching the twilight skies on pretty nights.
