AGOURA HILLS (CBSLA) — A second mountain lion has successfully crossed the 101 Freeway, right in the area where an $87 million wildlife bridge has been proposed.

The Mountain Lion Known As P-61 Has Been Killed While Trying To Cross The 405.

The big cat was struck and killed early Saturday while trying to cross the 405 freeway near the Sepulveda Pass — where the almost always busy road stretches across 10 lanes.

Drivers Encouraged to be Alert and Aware During Watch Out for Wildlife Week.

This time of year, the number of wildlife-vehicle collisions typically peak as animals start migrating to winter habitat, mating season begins for deer and elk, and bears spend more time foraging before hibernation. To help reduce collisions, Caltrans and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) remind motorists to be on the lookout during Watch Out for Wildlife Week, which runs Sept. 15-21.

Bear flees, fate unknown, after being hit by car in Tuolumne County.

It happened on the heels of a mountain lion walking into a Sonora-area home Sunday evening. And it came on the third day of Watch Out for Wildlife Week, an effort by Caltrans and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife to make motorists mindful of animals on roads.
