CNC: NYC 2021 Daily Highlights Summary

In the original project journal, there was a post each day of the CNC with some highlights. This post will summarize those posts. Observation numbers are pulled from observations added on these days of the challenge, but the species number reflects the current identifications.

Day 1 - April 30, 2021 - Off to a great start, especially in the Bronx!

On the first day of CNC, 222 observers made 3987 observations of 648 species. The largest portion of these (1776) were made in the Bronx, more than double the number of any other NYC borough on the first day. The first observations of the day were made by danielatha just after midnight.

Day 2 - May 1 , 2021 - Another great day!

Day 2 brought our observation total to 8742 with 1029 species and 475 observers. We had unusually gorgeous weather for an NYC CNC this day. Lots of sunshine, no winter hats needed.

Day 3 - May 2, 2021 - So many observers!

By the end of Day 3, we had 13103 observations of 1301 species. We also had 698 observers, surpassing our total number of observers for any of the previous NYC CNCs.

Day 4 - May 3, 2021 - A strong finish! Get those observations loaded!

At 11:59pm on May 3, we had 17010 observations of 1513 species posted by 798 observers. Over the course of the next week, more observations and observers were added until the cutoff at 9am on May 10. Of course, observations/species/observers continue to change as people add photos taken on those dates and identifiers come in and add IDs.
