The long-term purpose of this project is to provide more detailed checklists for places within King county. To work towards this goal, “bounties” will be placed on certain observations in King county, particularly those that are currently missing from the iNaturalist website. These bounties on missing observations will be assigned in a new location within King county each season, which will incentivize increased species documentation in some lesser explored places, as well to give everyone an equal opportunity to participate. Some bounties will be easy to claim, others hard; Some seasons may have high-participation, some low. However, the overall point is to have fun, explore, and produce a more complete record of life in King county.

The rules for this project are outlined elsewhere, but are fairly simple. If you observe a previously unobserved species in the specified location, then your observation will be recorded in the project. Multiple observers will be permitted to claim the same taxon during each round, but the individual who first “discovers” a new species will get a special acknowledgment.
