10k Observations!!

Moths of Sri Lanka Project on iNaturalist have reached the landmark of 10,000 observations.

A big thank you to all 395 people who've contributed 10,079 observations since the project started in 2013.
1009 species recorded! (Logged as of 12:22 on 27th June 2022).

Many Thanks to the 391 people who have contributed to identification of observations.

Here's to the next 10,000 observations . . .

Moth Week Competition 2021 - Announcement of Winners

It has been a progressive National Moth Week with 390 observations uploaded by 13 observers and over 100 species. Two contributors surpassing over 100 records.

The Winner of 2021 National Moth Week Competition is @chathuri_jayatissa
She has recorded 126 Observations and 106 different species.
Congratulations Chathuri !!!🏆🏆🏆

Runner up is @chathura_udayanga with 106 Observations and 96 different species.

Third place goes to @sasandulasithminaperera with 59 observations and 57 different species.

A copy of my book (A handbook to Moths of Sri Lanka vol.1 ) will be given to three highest species observers - Chathuri Jayathissa, Chathura Udayanga and Sithmina Perera as an appreciation for their contribution and effort.

Since many people can't go outside due to travelling restrictions

⁕ You can upload your past observations too, for this contest.

⁕ But remember if you already uploaded a moth observation to iNat, you can't reupload them!
Duplicate observations will not be counted.

⁕ Observations uploaded within the time period of Moth Week will only be counted.

⁕ all observations should be attached with one or more photograph

⁕ Observations of Moth caterpillars will also be counted!

National Moth Week 2020 - Registration for Covid-19 impacted NMW now open

Looking for an activity that’s safe, fun and enriching for all ages while social distancing or sheltering at home?

The ninth annual National Moth Week, July 18-26, invites novice and experienced “moth-ers,” alike, to observe these fascinating creatures in their own backyards and contribute to our scientific knowledge as part of one of the world’s largest citizen science projects.

As people likely will continue avoiding crowds this summer to slow the spread of COVID-19 infections, National Moth Week (NMW) offers the opportunity to learn about nighttime nature from the safety of backyards and gardens; porches, decks and balconies – anywhere a light can be turned on.
